About the Book
This book contains information on scientific names,families, local names, descriptions, phenology, habitat, distribution,food and feed values, and other uses of 378 edible wild plants of Ethiopia.
These species play significant roles in food security, dietary diversification, income generation, coping up with periods of stress (drought, crop failure and famine) and traditional herbal medicine. Edible wild plants have also several indirect benefits such as storehouses of genetic diversity and habitat for different organisms.
The book documents and disseminates the indigenous knowledge on the edible wild plants, paves the way for their
domestication and incorporation on farms both for domestic consumption and as sources of products for income generation by
smallholder farmers. It will be useful to students, extension workers, scientists and non-scientists, including the general public and policy makers, interested in edible wild plants. |
